Meet Dr. DiGioia, or ‘Dr. D’ to his patients
Dr. DiGioia’s work has focused on coupling technology with improved clinical evaluation and patient care, and he is currently applying the latest advances in artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) in the care of patients with knee and hip arthritis. Dr. D. remains focused on developing shared decision-making tools - enabling patient-centered collaborative care with these evolving AI/ML technologies to improve outcomes, reduce the over-utilization of surgery, and increase access to care for all.

Education & Training
Dr. DiGioia holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in Biomedical and Civil Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University and is a graduate of Harvard Medical School. He completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) and then a specialized fellowship in Adult Reconstruction at Massachusetts General Hospital.

Clinical Experience
Dr. DiGioia has extensive expertise in treating knee and hip arthritis and joint replacement surgery, having performed over 15,000 replacements throughout his career.

He is the Founder and Medical Director of the UPMC Bone and Joint Center.
