How we integrate Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in our process

Understanding AI & Machine Learning at JESO
Answers to the questions we hear most from patients
What is Machine Learning (ML) vs Artificial Intelligence (AI)?
Artificial Intelligence (AI) broadly means "computer technology designed to simulate human intelligence." Machine Learning is a subset of AI that "learns" from experts and thousands of existing examples during training.
What makes our Machine Learning algorithm stand out?
Our ML algorithm is internally trained, tested, and evaluated by highly skilled orthopaedic surgeons. JESO Machine Learning has over 5+ years of experience evaluating arthritis and joint wear from simple X-rays of knees and hips.
How does JESO use ML?
Our ML technology assesses joint degeneration in knees and hips with near 100% accuracy, trained on over 10,000 X-rays and validated by expert surgeons including Dr. Tony DiGioia. JESO also factors in patient-reported pain and function levels.
Human validation is still necessary.
Machine learning is one component of the JESO experience. It supports the evaluation process but does not make final recommendations independently. Every report is personally reviewed by Dr. DiGioia to ensure accuracy and clinical appropriateness.
Why do we use ML in our process?
Machine Learning helps JESO deliver faster, more accessible, and more personalized second opinions — without replacing the expert clinical judgment you deserve.
Speed
Patients often wait months for an in-person specialist appointment. With JESO, we turn around a surgeon-reviewed report within the same week you submit a completed evaluation.
Accessibility
Many patients seeking a second opinion face difficulty with long travel and prolonged waits. JESO lets your evaluation be processed efficiently and easily from the comfort of your home.
Affordability
By combining ML technology with expert clinical advice in a fully virtual setting, we can offer this service for less than the cost of a typical specialist co-pay.
Individualized
JESO considers your reported pain and function levels, your X-rays, and your past medical and treatment history to deliver a recommendation tailored specifically to you.
Misconceptions About ML & AI
Separating fact from fiction so you can feel confident in your care.
MYTH 1
AI/ML is making the medical decisions.
THE FACT
AI/ML supports physicians — it doesn't replace them. The final recommendation always comes from a qualified orthopaedic expert.
MYTH 2
My case is too unique for AI.
THE FACT
JESO's ML considers your reported pain and loss of function, your X-rays, and your past treatment and medical history to provide an individualized report.
MYTH 3
My information isn't safe.
THE FACT
JESO and healthcare AI/ML platforms follow strict privacy regulations and use secure, encrypted systems to protect patient information.
